Paul Minhas

Paul Minhas brings incumbent council experience, decades in New Westminster, and the real-world perspective of a local business owner who helped make the Heritage Grill a diverse, music-filled gathering place downtown. If re-elected, he will champion accountable spending, stronger services, safer communities, and a council that understands the pressures facing residents, taxpayers and small businesses.

For years, operating the Heritage Grill was more than a business to me — it was a place where musicians, families, newcomers, regulars and neighbours came together. That experience showed me what makes a city feel alive, and it is why I keep pushing for safer streets, stronger local businesses and a council that understands everyday pressures.

Paul Minhas brings together the experience of a current city councillor and the practical perspective of a longtime New Westminster business owner. Since opening the Heritage Grill in 2005 and later Begbie’s Pub, Paul has seen firsthand what it takes to create jobs, serve customers, support local arts and culture, and keep a small business going through changing economic conditions.

Paul believes council should understand how its decisions affect residents, employers, storefronts and neighbourhood life. His priorities include accountable spending, stronger service delivery, safer communities, support for local businesses, and a stronger voice for residents and taxpayers at city hall.

Born in Punjab, India and raised in Vernon, Paul has lived in New Westminster since 1991. Through the Heritage Grill, he helped create a downtown space known for live music, cultural diversity, inclusive community events, and connection across different backgrounds and generations. Alongside Begbie’s Pub, Pride Week, Show and Shine, food truck events, jazz band scholarships and community meals, that experience gives Paul a grounded understanding of how local businesses can strengthen culture, community and economic life in New Westminster.
