Lucas Steele

Lifelong New Westminster resident Lucas Steele brings a young voice, hands-on youth mentorship experience and a strong background in athletics and recreation to his campaign for school trustee. As school trustee, he will champion inclusive, well-resourced schools, expanded extracurricular opportunities and stronger supports that help every student build confidence, belonging and success.

  • Former coach with New Westminster Hyack football and New Westminster Royals.
  • Founder of the NWSS Lifting Club, and a powerlifter with Team Canada.

Growing up in New Westminster and mentoring young people here has shown me how much confidence, belonging and opportunity can shape a student’s future.

Lucas Steele is a lifelong New Westminster resident, New Westminster Secondary School graduate and Massey Heights neighbour who would bring a young voice and firsthand youth mentorship experience to the school board. With deep roots in local education, athletics and recreation, Lucas is a former New Westminster Hyack football coach, New Westminster Royals coach and founder of the NWSS Lifting Club. He has worked with children and youth from elementary through high school while volunteering at Fraser River and Glenbrook middle schools.

As a powerlifter for Team Canada, Lucas understands the role that physical activity, mentorship and belonging can play in building confidence, discipline, mental health and wellness. He believes students should have equal access to education, athletics and extracurricular opportunities regardless of family income or background.

Lucas is committed to inclusive, accessible and well-resourced schools that reflect the needs of students, families and a growing community. His priorities include advocating for government-funded learning and educational assessments, improving student supports, and planning responsibly for school capacity in one of Canada’s densest cities.
